Hi all,
im new to 'folding' [and ironing for that matter :) ] i've been trawling through the forums last two days and cant find anything that sorts it.
I've installed it on a cpl of machines on my network using the Gui version.
but now i've decided to jump in and roll it out across our network ( i am the senior admin, and gave myself permission) . I was looking through the Network installer script and it seems kosher,
creates the directories,
registry 'parameters'
installs the service,
But everytime the service starts it overwrites the cfg file, so losing our proxy settings and my username etc etc..
could some1 look through my log or offer any guidance and tell me whats going on... tnx.

I would use Wedo one click . you make the changes to the cfg file first then run the installer

Where did you find version 3.25? I started in 2004 and we were on version 4 and bringing 5 on line. You need the 5.02 or 5.04 CLI Console installed as a service. Wedo's one-click will install FAH 5.02 as a service pretty painlessly. Do not edit the client.cfg with word or wordpad, use notepad. Check out the ultimate install sticky. The urls in version 3.25 aren't current so it will not connect to stanford.

:welcome: to the team ... looks like you have all the advice you need for now :)

Good luck with the setup

tnx everyone, nice to be welcomed!
I had been editing the config with wordpad so i suppose maybe that fluffed it up. Getting the right version might help too :) tnx again.

i came across folding a round-about way, and have got v3.25 although the file i've got is "FAH502-Console.exe", anyways, stanfords download site is blocked by the cities Proxy Filter [we're a primary school, and pay for the privelage :( ]. Is there any chance some1 could email me the latest client please?
tnx in advance.

I got into trouble using Wordpad too. None of my changes would save. Apparently you MUST use Notepad, NOT Wordpad. I've been told it has something to do with Wordpad not recognizing "unix style carriage returns." So even though in Notepad it just looks like a bunch of garbage when you open it (all the little square figures), everything stays intact.

That's just what I was told anyways. Once I heard that, and used Notepad, my .cfg problem went away and all was well.

It looks much nicer and much cleaner in Wordpad, but apparently Wordpad destroys the file. So it seems that you have to use Notepad, despite the horrible legibility of how it's all cluttered.

EDIT: Oh, and here's the link to Wedo's thread with all of his one-click installs. Has installers for just about everything. One, two, or four processor machines with or without adv methods. All you have to do is extract, edit the .cfg files as you want, then double click the installer. Also has some network installers on it. Since they are Wedo's, they are on some random site, rather than Stanford's.

The client.cfg file is NOT a windows or DOS text file. It is a Unix file, and has critical field separaters between each entry. Some fonts show them as little black rectangles, some fonts only show them as blank spaces.

It can be edited in Notepad, if you are VERY careful. Never use an editor (like Wordpad), that wants to handle the file as a text file. True, it has text in it, but it is NOT a text file.

An easy way to handle this is just to delete the client.cfg file, and start up the console. It will immediately detect it has no client configuration, and kick into config mode and prompt you for the info - just like you had set the -config flag, but this way you don't have to mess with any flags.

Welcome to Team 32!

tnx guys,
the problem with wedo's installer is that it uses url2file with i cant specify my proxy settings in.. i still could do with a newer version if any1 wants to help :)

If i run it the console version with -config and then copy that client.cfg into the msi installer folder, that'd work right?

Genius, i copied an existing (must've been un-wordpad'd ) in to the delpoyment folder and hey presto, they're all folding away..

thanks all..

thats maybe an extra 30ish folders for the cause..

Here a a free editor i use that always works perfectly with unix files on windoze and displays them properly too -> http://www.notetab.com

It sure beats notepad! It has many other nice features which i use as a convenient way to examine all my folding instances' logs, config files etc ... eg using its favourite files feature. It is part of the standard install i put on all my folding rigs.

And if you don't like that one here is another free one that was recommended by another folder (can't remember who) -> http://liquidninja.com/metapad/

Its fun isnt it =) I will watch for you as you pass me by =) Way to Fold
What name are they folding under ? what is your EOC link

Wow Welcome to the Fold!

Oh and as for the 1.7 celly's don't put them on timeless units as they are going away. They should be fine for non bigpackets WU's. I am not sure about the flag setup, so I am sure someone more knowledgable will chime in.

Ha Ha... the above gave me a good laugh.

Welcome to the team! And welcome to these forums (first time I've seen your name around).

There ARE NO timeless Work Units. That part of the project is done (at least for now), and there is no timeframe to re-start the timeless WU's.

Congrats on your borging, Dan. :) You're off to a flying start!

If you answer yes to deadlineless WUs you will fold nothing as it is an exclusive selection.
