the white stuff above the green arrows. its not thermal paste (at least i dont think) all i know is that its crusty (lol) and my x2 5200+ does not work now :bang head

i am doing an RMA tho AMD right now, but they said if they figure out the cause to be from user error then they wont replace it

ill try rubbing alcohol tonight, what about contact cleaner? would that work the same? and if i use rubbing alcohol does it matter which kind? rubbing alcohol is rubbing alcohol right?

Use Isopropyl (rubbing alcohol) and wind (canned air or blow on it). Brushing on the pin side of a CPU seems risky to me. Really an odd place for thermal paste.

would thermal paste cause the CPU not to work tho?

or

would water cause this?

or

would overclocking cause this

After you get the cleaned up, I wouldn't expect that processor to work...just a heads up. Hope it does work for you though!!

well cleaning it didnt work :bang head well ill send it to AMD and hopefully they will send me a new one :(

but if it condensation, why just the center?

so now if they dont replace my 5200+ should i...

A) Get a new 5200+ with dielectric grease?
B) get a 6000+ with dielectric grease?
C) get a X2 4400+ or X24600+ with dielectric grease and o/c it?
D) stick with my 2800+ Sempron and wait for Phenom?
E) get a 6600 C2D and new MB and dielectric grease?

I suppose you could try and wait for phenom. I haven't heard much and don't know how it'll stack up to Intel. But you can get a decent overclocking C2D setup for fairly cheap.

EDIT: and you might want to consider some decent insulating to avoid any other damage from condensation. (in addition to dielectric grease)
