Hi all,
I just put together a new system of:
E8400
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
Crucial Ballistix (2x1gb) PC2-8500

When I first installed the RAM, the BIOS and CPUZ reported 1066mhz. However, after I attempted to run the ram at the rated 2.2V, 5-5-5-15, the BIOS and CPUZ now both report 800mhz.

Does anyone have any idea what happened? Thanks!

Might have to change ur ram multiplier in the bios from auto and set it to whatever your ram is rated at.....i had DDR 2 800mhz which my bios saw as 667 all i did was change my ram multi to 4.0+ and it ran at 800 but this differs depending wut ur fsb of ur cpu is so mess around wit ur ram multi until u get ur rated speed...

You are on a 2.4 multiplier, you need to change to 3.2... Or better yet, keep the 2.4 multi and raise the FSB to 444, that'll run the memory at 1066 and give ya a nice boost while you're at it

at 2.2v you should have a fan directly over the ram. though it is often sold with specs up to 2.3v D9 has been dying a lot at voltages above 2.1.

ok i have a similar issue like he does i have asus p5e mb and e6750 chip

when i set my cpu speed from auto up to 350x8 my ram has a 1066 option right now my chip is overclocked to 3.6 which is 450x8 and my ram only has 2 options that are close to 1066 which are 900 and 1081......whats up with that? even when i set the voltage to 1.8 (p5e overvolts by .4) it still doesnt have the 1066 option anymore.....should i just mess with the timing ? any suggestions ?

On intel chipest boards bus speed is linked to memory frequency. Based on bus speed and memory's multiplier, memory's frequency is determined. So with bus speed 450 and multi 2.0 you get 900 and 2.4 mulit you get 1080. If you would lower bus speed to 444, you would see that option 1066.

I have a RAM issue. I have 4 gigs of Crucial 1066 tracer RAM. My mobo by default sets the 1066mhz to 800mhz. So In my bios I have to set it to unlinked and manually input 1066mhz. When I go to reboot it freezes. So then I took out 2 DIMs and tried it to run it at 1066 to no avail. I have set the voltage to the correct 2.2 and that hasn't helped. I am thinking my RAM is AFUED. My Mobo is the ASUS P5n-E SLI with the newest BIOS update installed.

Try running a single memory stick at a time and check that it can run at 1066. Run memtest86+ on each stick. It may be that you have a bad one. Also fix the timings to manufacturer default.

i would say run the ram unlinked if its a nv600 chipset on there. they also seem to have come with nv500's for a while. i know there are 2 with each chipset both closly named so it gets confusing from asus to remember which is which chipset. using auto timings in some cases will cause issues when tring to get the ram to higher speeds. another thing is that NV600/500 have a much harder time with 4gig ram ocing then P35/X38 does. try 1/2 sticks to figure out whats going on. cause if 4gigs isnt playing nice, you have to up the SPP voltage more, that is the northbridge voltage.

I have set the timings to the manufacture default and there was no love.. I will run that mem test.

Thanks for the quick responses

I ran my mem test for 5 hours and no fail.. it did register at 800mhz though.. My PC won't boot when I set it to 1066.
My actual fsb is 1066 and my ram defaults to 1066. Does anyone have this motherboard and CPU. I am at a loss after doing what the others have stated to do.

System:
ASUS P5N-E SLI 680i mobo
Crucial Tracer x 4gigs
Intel Q6600
Thermaltake CL-P0401 110mm Heatsink
MSI 8800 ultra 660/2300
