budget = $150, just going to run stock
needs to be amd with pci express
mainly play hl2 and other older games at low/medium settings

Any reason why AMD? If your a fanboy thats fine, just curious as the performance will be better if you are willing to OC with intel, even with stock cooling.

Wasnt able to make anything worthwhile for $150.. If you could up that to $200 then can do the following:

Board: $89 GIGABYTE GA-MA770-DS3 AM2+/AM2 AMD 770

CPU: $49 AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000+ Brisbane 2.1GHz
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103775

Memory: $55.99AR OCZ Platinum 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227178

Total: $194 AR (not including tax/shipping)

i don't really have a preference, i just assumed AMD was still cheaper and that it would be easier to get what i need for my budget.

holy cow dude, $194 after rebate and you've got him linked to a processor with out a heat sink which would be more he would have to spend and ram that runs faster than the processor can support

heres what i can come up with, still a little more than your willing to spend but better on the books none the less.

BIOSTAR A770 A2+ $70 ($60 AR)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138106

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4400+ Brisbane 2.3GHz Retail (w/heat sink) $65
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103776

Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) DDR800 $44 ($24 AR)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220174

$179 Before rebate and shipping, $149 After rebate before shipping, the mobo and processor have free shipping so an added $6 to ship the ram to bring grand total to $155 after rebate including shipping

He said CPU, Motherboard, Ram.. Nothing about cooling..

And I never recommend Biostar products... Also, the ram matches the speed of the motherboard..
