I was just thinking today and I think for my purposes it will be a good investment. Plus I really wanna build a new rig and I can't convince myself a new desktop is necessary.
here is what I am thinking:
dvd burner: ( I have a ps3 so the blu-ray is not a necessity but it would be nice especially if there is software to burn it to my hard drive)

Audio:
I have heard of an audio card that interfaces with some video cards to output via one hdmi cable. I can not find it now but I think it will be out soon, possibly by auzentech? also not sure if the gpu selected is compatable.

not sure to go atx or micro-atx, probably intel chip, something with built in wi/fi would be nice
cpu:
not sure here either this is why I need you guys lol, dont need overkill just something to get the job done. ripping, burning dvds, playing movies, music etc.
Tv tuner:
not sure if I will get one since I will have a DVR by the time this is built
case:
not sure here either. looking to go black to match most of my other electronics and stand. would like a nice lcd to know what I am doing.
memory:
again I guess whatever m/b and cpu I find I'll get a 2gb dual channel setup.
hard drive:
large obviously. probably 1TB. not sure about interface or rpm's. I dont want this htpc to be really loud when seeking. also would like a fast interface to run the movies. but I am sure a 5400 or 7200 would be fast enough.
