I got a E8400 chip, and i can't decide what motherboard to go for!

X48 or P45 ?

I'm looking for a board that will be good to OC with, a good overall system for gaming. (x48 maybe have the advantage due to the 2x PCIe 16x speed slots ?) Which will perform better? I can't seem to be convinced by either one, i hear good things about each of them.

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

P45 will clock better from what I've seen, the only time the PCI-E will make a difference is when your pushing serious crossfire action.

I am about to build a new system and planning to go with P45. But then again I am not considering CF or SLI, just the new X2.

Brollocks has shown that 4850's do fine in dual PCIe2.0 x8 until you get to uber high rez, and even then the bottleneck is small.

1680x1050 and 1920x res's are uber high? Those are standard now.

While this is currently a comparison with the p35, you said it had no change.

In crossfire that is a SIGNIFICANT difference.

The p45 comparions should be up soon too.

Just keep an eye on it.

If you don't plan on doing crossfire at all, then don't worry about it.

Uber high is >1920x1200. Those results you show are for 4870's on P35. I'm talking about 4850's on P45. P35 is PCIe1.1 x16 x4. P45 is PCIe2.0 x8 x8...big difference.

A PCIe1.1 x4 slot only has 1/4 the bandwidth of a PCIe2.0 x8 slot in theory.

Even w/ 4870's P45 barely limits them in x-fire. Brollocks results.
