Bootdisk.com - Windows ME OEM boot disk for DOS.
Has FDISK & the lot.

Looking to copy an entire hdd to another?
OEM - Hdd mfg's supply a disk that will do that.

New drive as primary & old drive jumpered as "Slave"
copy disk to disk then.

Please explain what you are looking to do a bit further please.
before I start sending you off in directions of unknown origin. :D

Looking to copy an entire hdd to another?

thats what im aiming to do. but im starting to doubt its posibilty. it has a problem saving $mft file "Master file table". so i am hoping i can load in DOS and copy from that drive to a properly working one. the buggered one has work data on it so to save it would be very very helpfull.

can this be done if the $mft file is corrupt/missing/whatever the real probelm is?

Yes. What file system does it have?
NTFS?
FAT32?

Does normally reads only FAT/FAT16/FAT32.
I will mention that if you look around over at NTFS.com
you can find a DOS boot disk that reads NTFS

and with that you "should be able to read & move your files.

I just DL'd it myself & have not tried it out yet.
I did partition MY hdd & added a FAT32 partition "to play with".

Just for this type of .....occasion.

If you look around, you should be able to find the DOS NTFS reader
and some DOS utilities to help you out.
Even some partition utils that may help you save the drive.

Get the files first.
