Does anyone knows a SAS controller compatible with a socket 478 motherboard?

Anything that runs on PCI or PCI64 ought to work fine on any board that has PCI slots I think.

I'm not so sure about that, i was hoping that someone using an old motherboard could help me choose a SAS controller.

As ben333 said, if you get a hardware SAS card that runs on PCI you will be fine (albeit limited to 133MB/s)

What board are you using? Does it have PCIE or PCIX slots? That will improve capabilities a bit, although will raise the price as well.
