I want to build a gaming and video editing computer but my budget is limited to 500 dollars. I want to build an i7 rig because i7 is pretty cheap at microcenter for 199. Now i need a mother board that overclocks well and some ddr3 ram. Thats pretty much all i can get for 500 and then i plan to use the psu hard drive from my old computer and the graphics as well ill up these later. Need a crossfire mother board though. Also if you guys can get me complete set up for 500 that would be even better but something that overclocks i have been reading alot about it and want to try overclocking.

Go for an i5 750 2.66GHz if they have it for 25+$ cheaper at microcenter, if they don't just get whatever i7 it is they have, <25$ isn't worth it. It can be made to perform as good as or better than a stock i7 920 with a little overclocking, and the thing is easy to OC. Has lower power consumption too. The MSI P55M-GD45 is a decent budget mobo, but it's mATX and only supports i7 Socket 1156/i5 1156 so you'll need to find a different mobo if you go with a 1336 i7. Let's say you get the i5 and it's 150, comes to 270$, have 230$ for RAM and I'd get a new PSU or case depending on how old your PSU is/how good your case airflow is. For RAM I'd get Corsair XMS3, it's dual channel 4GB 1600MHz DDR3 with decent timing. Corsair is my personal choice for RAM/WC/PSUs. Left with 110$ for a case/PSU, I'd get the Corsair CMPSU-750TX for 110$. Mobo and PSU have a mail in rebate on newegg, by the way, so you're left with a little room if you want to buy some extra fans or something.

Hard drive upgrade is also an alternative to a PSU/case but you have to make that decision for yourself, don't replace your HDD soon enough and you can end up with a lot of data lost. I'd run some tests to see how healthy your HDD is. OCing is challenging by the way. It's hard to grasp the information needed to OC, before you're confronted with the prospect of doing it it seems a LOT easier than it is. Expect to spend days finding settings you can boot with, then nights stress testing that config. OCing your CPU with the stock cooler is not the best idea either unless it's a minor OC. Good luck.

Good suggestion from Xantor if you want to Xfire or SLI in the future, the only thing I would change is the motherboard for 8x 8x sli/xfire -> Gigabyte P55M-UD4. Low price, great OC capability. Its part of my personal build I am currently putting together (sig).

Hey thank you guys for the help i decided to up the budget to 700 for a complete setup without a graphics card for now ill use my old nvidia 8400 unless you guys can find me a complete setup with a good graphics card all for 700 lol that would be nice. Also if you guys could find me a nice looking air case with good airflow i like the haf 932 but that will break my budget. I live 2 hours from microcenter they seem to be cheaper than newegg so i will be buying everything there most likely thanks a again for your guys help

If your getting that case, you only need the HAF 922... cheaper, smaller, similar performance, similar looks etc..

Buy the GPU later...

The P55M-UD4 is the cheapest mobo that will do Xfire/SLI at 8x/8x. It is also very solid at OC'ing.

HAF 932 looks like someone took a wire mesh cage intending to make a scarecrow, hit it with a hammer a bit, added some metal and painted some parts and then marketed it as a top of the line computer case, IMO. But to each his own :D. Of course, it does have amazing cooling.

Reason I linked the MSI mobo was because it does SLI/Crossfire at x16/x16 instead of splitting it x8/x8 like Gigabyte's mobos do. What's your current case? It's possible you could clean it out, add some fans and get a bottle of spray paint if you wanted to make it look good, and have the saved money for a GPU like a 5850 or 5870, and if they have all of this hardware at Microcenter for a lot cheaper you could fully afford that GPU with a little left over.

Hey thanks for your help highly appreciated. I want to go with the i7 because it is the same price as the i5 almost so i would need a good overclockable i7 board if you could find me a good one i would appreciate that. Ya i think if i cant fit it in my budget ill wait out on the graphics card and is there any other good airflow cases that would be cheaper. Thanks again

That board IS an i7 overclocking board. Has 12 power phases and an 8-pin power connector. OC's i7 860's VERY well.

ok that sounds good but will the board overclock i7 930 or just the 860's

You set a budget of $700, yet you are asking for a pretty expensive system. An i7 930 is ~$200 + a $250 motherboard + a 6gb set of ram for ~ $200. You can get that for $650, but they want to help you in the long run by giving you a cheaper system of equal performance and allowing you to get something better than an 8400 as your graphics option. I would be listening well to them.
