4890 from XFX

Since my GPU just died... I'm going to need a new card

Can't afford the new 5870 just yet but what you guys think about this?

I bet with the right OC I can get some decent Boints. What I'm wondering if I'll be able to mess with the Voltage on this card.

Dunno about the 4 series but with the 5 series only reference boards can overvolt. Not sure if this card is reference or not sorry. I assume your warranty is up? Why not try the oven trick or send me the dead card. = D

Thats going to be a no-no dolk, those XFX cards are non-reference and have no voltage control. You might want to try ebay for a card, or other forums if there aren't any here. Shoot me a PM if you need help finding a card

That's what I was afraid of. I'm pretty sure the sapphire ones are reference but I'm not 100% on that.

you may want to pm bobnova, I think he has a 4890 that may be ready to sell. not sure but worth a try. I think he will require that you run it for boints if he does sell it to you. hehe

My bad 4870 will just have to be a project now.

I did my research quick but I can control voltage with this one. If I can't... I'll just have to hard mod on some variable resistors

The benching team submits scores to www.hwbot.org for points aka boints. You can learn all about it here "How to become a benching team member" sticky and here benchmark-buffet. Its lots of fun but can be addictive and dangerous for the wallet and your hardware
