Hi guys im planning on buying an amd athlon x2 am3 socket, from newegg.com and i wanted to know if it could it into an Am2 or Am2+ board? if so which ones do you recommend?

Yes, as long as the bios supports that CPU. Check with the board manufacturer's web site for a CPU support list and there may also be a bios update that will include your CPU if the current bios does not support it.

I am pretty sure no AM2 only boards can support AM3, but many AM2/AM2+ boards can, it's a pretty marketable feature so they like to advertise that it does a lot. But just go on newegg.com and go to AMD motherboards and select AM2/AM2+/AM3 as your socket type.
