I'm messing around with the idea of building a new PC for about $1,000 and just wanted some opinions of what i've come up with so far. I do a little gaming and alot of video transcoding so I can watch stuff in HD on my 360 and I figured I might as well go quad core because I figure it should help alot with the transcoding. Anyways... here's what I have so far, any suggestions are appreciated. Also by the way, I do plan on overclocking.

Ok... Here we go..

MoBo: The Sabertooth has had good reviews out there and it has all the new features (Sata 6GBs and USB3)... So it all boils down to personal preference. But good choice.

CPU: The 950 should give you great performance for the price. If you have a Microcenter near your; you can pick it up for $230 at the store and save $60 there.

RAM: The Corsair is good, especially for that price... But $20 more would get you better memory.
This one is rated at the same speed (1600MHz) but it comes with better timings so it should perform better. I'm sure you've seen the other kits at the egg, just pick the one that will make you happy, but faster ram will make for better performance and better OCing.

GPU: If you're getting that video card just because it comes with the Mafia II coupon, that's up to you.... But there are other video cards out there that will perform just as well or even better within that price range. Check out the new 6870s by AMD... I believe they pretty much perform on par with the 470 and in some cases even beat it while drawing less power and making less heat.

CPU Cooler: I don't know much about that one, but the guys here that push their CPU's hard while on air are almost always using Noctua, Thermalright or Cogage. I'm partial to the looks of the Thermalrght TRUE Rev C... and again differences between the Top coolers will be in the 2 or 3 degrees so it's almost up to preference.
YES... you will spend more for the top coolers, but they are worth it.

Case: Again.... personal preference, but I'd go for something that gives me more room for fans and other stuff. This is my favorite case under $100 right now: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119216
In fact; I have some nice plans for that case when I buy it next week and put my rig together in it.

Cheers
Sebastian

As for the case. If you want to go with the Antec 300, this one is the Antec 300 Illusion. It comes with blue LED lights and for an extra $15, it comes with 2 additional front fans. But there is also mail in rebate for $15 ending later today. But Its all up to you. You can also check out the combos they provide which saves some cash and bundles up with a PSU.

mmk, so basically for the RAM were you suggesting the other one because it has a lower latency? and for the video card I wasn't picking it just for the free game but I did do some research and it seems you were right about the 6870, so thanks for that. Anyways, look at these 2 and tell me what you think.

Yep... those two will do you just fine. The XFX video card has lifetime warranty just like the EVGAs
The RAM is also OK... just a few bucks more and you have memory with better CAS Latency. Now the thing is that in real life you won't really be able to tell the difference between CL9 and CL8l... Only when you're running benchmarks will you see it, but you said you were going to OC, so I assumed you'd be benchmarking your Overclocks as well.
I can tell you this the RAM in my signature is CL9... I got it because it was cheap and I was on a budget for that PC... But it hasn't disappointed at all in terms of performance.
