I am looking to get the Razer Tiamat within the next few months. My Razer Carachis Mic stopped working after 3 years. I currently have been using RealTek Onboard Graphics via my Asus P5N-D Mobo. What would be a good sound card between $80-$150. I am looking at the 3 below right now. The refurbished one looks like a good deal.

X Fi Titanium and ASUS Xonar Essence STX seem to be the top two sound cards on the market.

That being said, AFAIK the sound quality on the Tiamat isn't the greatest (lots of complaints about bass response lacking) so you're probably fine with onboard if it has all the ports.

I assume he meant the Tiamat 7.1, the STX wouldn't be good for him in that case because it lacks the analog outputs for the Tiamat. He should look at the ASUS DX instead or another card in their line.

The STX is a great soundcard for stereo headset and digital receivers.

Read up a bit, apparently the Phoebus is extremely similar to the STX, but more analog outputs. Seems perfect for that headset.

That being said, I'd still recommend a high quality stereo head and the STX, just better sound quality even if it's not as good directional. Maybe I just don't like gaming audio products, lol. :p

don't bother, those cans suck.
a sound card will not make the cans worth the 200$.
get a real set of headphones.

Do you have a set of headset/w mic that you recommend? I use a headset for BF3 and Teamspeak.

Don't bother with headsets either. You will get far better quality with a nice pair of headphones and a separate mic. Here's a great guide: http://www.head-fi.org/t/534479/mad...d-7-28-2012-external-microphone-section-added

yes I do, what are you looking for?
open, closed, mids, highs ext

I like my old Stanton Dynaphase Sixty's, they go for 50$ and beat even a 250$ set of cans.
but I would not recommend them to most people.

If your going to be using the cans for gaming, I'd go with the ad700 or 900 and a clip on mic.
They come in both closed and open.
The closed one have more bass wile the open ones have better soundstage and treble.

Here's another option, look at the sennheiser PCXXX series. If you can get the PC360 on sale they're pretty good for their price. HD55X series sound quality with an excellent microphone.
