I'm looking to build a new system for Media / Entertainment [Hook to my TV]
I'll run Linux Mint and play streaming video, among other things. I'm sure 8GB is plenty of memory.
So the question is whether I should get 2 or 4 DIMMs for this "2 channel" system.
Is there any performance advantage to getting 4 DIMMs rather than 2 DIMMs?
The 2 x 4GB packages are actually cheaper than the 4 x 2GB ones. I'm looking at this for the memory:
G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600

Thanks,
ww

The only reason there are 4 x DIMM slots is because the board supports up to 32GB of RAM (8GB x 4). The RAM will run in a dual-channel config. irregardless of whether 2 or 4 modules are installed. The only caveat is if only 2 modules are installed, they need to be installed in either both yellow or both brown DIMM slots.
