2 Windows 7 drives on one computer

If you want XP you will have to install it first. 7 will recognize XP and allow other boot drives but not XP, it will think it is the only OS drive because the boot sector is different, it will write it's own and the 7 install will be lost. If you want two copies of 7 on different drives you should keep the primary boot drive while installing unless you want to use a boot loader tool, it will get it's own drive letter when installing but the boot sector will still reside on the primary drive and recognize both. You will also want it on a higher number sata port or a different sata chip as it looks for the boot loader in order of the lowest sata numbered port and moves on to the next in order. If you want the secondary install to have the D letter designation you will need to disconnect other drives like CD or DVD drives, or change their letter beforehand. You are allowed to have a secondary install be it different or a shadow copy. Been a long time but I think that you have to do an advanced install in order to get it to work and designate the drive letter and have it named C: if it boots instead of the primary so that when either one boots it will be called C/: IIRC.
