5,1 surround question

Hey, i got the roccat kave 5,1 real surround headsett, and i was wondering if it would matter if i took the audio jacks into a real sound card an not on the mainboard. Anyway I heard someone say that you wouldn't get real 5,1 surround if you didn't, is this true???
I got the m4a89gtd, i think it got 7,1 channel audio.

It used to be that sound cards were far better than on board sound but mainboards now a days have very good on board sound chips and can output multichannel sound no problem... So you'll be fine either way...
