I finally broke the 17k barrier! Just updated my 3dmark score. Before the mod I was only getting 164xx. With the mod my score went 168xx. Of course I was not contented yet, I enabled dual channel memory with my 8rda and finally got:

I doubt you actually modded your card to a 9800... it's simply not possible; all it does is have your os use the drivers of a 9800, but only the drivers. They are more optimised, hence the small speed increase. Catalysts 3.3 will include these performance optimisations for all 9x00 cards, and probably will give you higher scores.

yeah thats what he means... softmod-> software modification. anyway yeah he just used 9800 drivers that work and improve performance on a 9700 pro

I think it's just confusing to use term "9800Softmod", because the softmod that is able to turn a 9500 non-pro with a 256-bit bus into a 9700 is called "9700Softmod". And it will be a fully functional 9700. "9800Softmod" -name makes people think that their 9700 turns into a fully functional 9800 which it isn't.

I have to agree. I think that the term 9800 SoftMod is overstating what actually happens and gives people a false sense of what it does. Once the CAT 3.3's come out it wont be a "softmod" anymore. Just plain old optimized drivers. Technically there is NO SOFTMOD for the 9700 or 9500 series cards to go to a 9800.

I guess we should call it 9700 patched 9800 drivers :)
