I have a 4870X2 and the fan noise is too much for me to handle now thats its not a smooth loudness like it used to be. So my questions are:

What are my options for replacing the stock cooler?

and

Is it more pragmatic to invest in a new card rather than a new fan?

and lastly

If so what card and why?

THESE ARE MY CURRENT SYSTEM SPECS:

The 4870x2 cooler is now going to be very difficult to replace. It was hard to find an aftermarket cooler even a couple years ago.

Assuming I can find one is it worth it to get it over getting a new card? I know that the 4870x2 is a good card and I've always been able to play everything on max as long as I turn my fan up. But honestly I don't know enough about how graphic cards work to know how much better some of the newer one are.

If I can get a better quieter card for just a little more money than it would cost to replace the cooler than I would just do that. But alas my technological ignorance is holding me back.

The 4870x2's setup is harder to do because it needs heatsinks to cover both GPUs. You can try to find just a fan to replace yours though, I'm not sure of what model# etc to look for though.

Right, I wouldn't be touching any of the heatsinks or the fan housing (other than to take it off during) or anything I was just wondering if it would help to put a new fan in it...

It definitely wouldn't be bad to do so. Assuming your current fan is the one that is causing the issue. I'm sure you may be able to find another blower fan of that size/model somewhere, I'm just not sure exactly where.
