Hey there,

I was hoping some of you guys could pitch in your advice on upgrading my gaming PC. I built it about 3 years ago, I am not too sure if its completely outdated already or what is still good in it but let me know what you think and recommend I do.

I only really play Planetside 2, I average about 24-30 fps on high graphics. I was hoping to play on the higher graphics and get a better fps.

1) I still have two out of four slots open for RAM. Should I get the same RAM or is there better that will work?
2) I was thinking of upgrading to XFX AMD Radeon HD 6850. Some good condition used ones on ebay for ~$75

I think im close to going over my 550W

Thanks for any input!

4GB more RAM (all of it will default to whatever the slowest settings are), a 270X, and OC that CPU to 4GHz an you should be good for another year or two.

What about an additional 8gb of ripjaw ram 2x4gb. Would that work and be better?

It really HAS TO match... it isn't a preference issue here. ;)

At minimum, you need the speed, timing, and voltage to match. Otherwise, you change running into stablity issues with mismatched ram. MMatched ram is never a good idea. I would scrap what you have and get new sticks if you cannot find the exact pair you have.

You should look and see how much ram you are using now. If you aren't using more then 80% of it getting 8g will probably not bring you any noticeable gains while gaming. If I'm not mistaken, isn't Planetside more of a cpu based game? You may want to try and overclock the 965 a bit.

You could also try overclocking the 5850 and see if it helps. They are usually pretty good overclockers I was able to play BF3 with mine at 850/1125.
