I just got a new Alienware Aurora R7. I read different forums and found out that some memory modules were not compatible with this motherboard. There was on sale on memory below for me to test but both are compatible.

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231892

https://www.rakuten.com/shop/adata/product/AD4U300038G16-DS10/?sku=AD4U300038G16-DS10

This is the spec from Dell
Memory specifications
Slots
Four DIMM sockets
Type
DDR4
Speed•
2666 MHz•
Up to HyperX FURY DDR4 XMP at 2933 MHz

These are 2 different clock speeds. I am using both in it now. When I use seperately the G.Skill or Adata the xmp memory is enabled in the bios. If I put it together the XMP is disabled.

Now I believe the motherboard is underclocking the Adata. What benefit do I get from getting 2 set the same vs 2 set not the same?

If I am benefit from same memory then I will go for this:

Don't buy the ones in Newegg link. They are for old mobos. I guess they'd work with your mobo but they are slow.
And, don't buy A-Data.
I'd be surprised if memory modules from different manufacturers could work together.
If you want to upgrade your RAM modules, save more money and get a RAM kit with 3200MHz and CL14.
But you don't need to upgrade your RAM modules, because you'd get diminishing returns after some point. You are extremely close to this particular point.
I suggest investing in something else such as a better chair, mouse, keyboard, lightning, gaming table etc.

Nothing wrong with ADATA Ram per se. ADATA is not an off brand. Their products are of good quality.

Was this in connection to my post? I didn't say ADATA was bad. I said don't buy ADATA because he already has a good kit.

Welcome to the club Trents!!

Theres nothing wrong with either set of memory. what is happening is the mb is defaulting to the lowest speed kits, timings and speed so there arent any stability issues. ie- both the gskill and adata are running @2666 15-15-15-35 1.2v, with your cpu and unknown intel mb you wont see much difference between the gskill or adata. you may see some improvements in benches but real world its not going to effect anything that you do day to day. i would keep them both if you have a need for 32gb. if not return the set you dont need and keep the other. theres no need to buy another set of memory when you already have 2 sets of solid memory.
