OK I know this is a long shot but, would an AMD 5800+ AM2 processor work on an M4A79XTD EVO? Pretty sure my processor is dead but I wanted to test it, a friend of mine has this proc. to spare. Pretty sure it is a no go but wanted to ask the smart people here before proceeding. (Flattery never hurts. :p )

What part of the motherboard being AM3 do you not get? AM3 motherboards ONLY work with AM3 cpus that have a ddr3 IMC. AM3 cpus have a ddr3 and ddr2 IMC so they can be used in both new AM3 mobos and AM2+ mobos with an appropriate bios update, but NO AM2 CPU will EVER work in an AM3 mobo. Aside from that they are not even pin compatible.
