Any advantages to using a low er besides space considerations?

I currently have several AM3+ and AMD APU rigs using either closed loop water coolers or tower coolers. I was wondering if an old school low profile cooler would have any advantages such as blowing a down draft on the mosfet and northbridge heatsinks? If I did make the change I would try to get a good cooler such as a Noctua with a 140 mm fan.

With an APU, not really. With the Octo cores and overclocking... it may help, but usually those coolers are not as good to cool the CPU so you can suffer there.

You can use a rack server heatsink assembly if you want great cooling in a small space.
