Dell fixes 2007WFP image quality problems - [hardware]

06:39 PM EDT - May,26 2006

PC World reports that Dell has posted a fix (another thread) for the banding problems affecting some of its wide-screen 20.1" 2007WFP monitors. The banding is most visible in color gradients, and Dell's Corporate Director of Displays Marketing says it is due to a faulty color management chip in some of the displays. While it's possible to do a firmware upgrade on the existing monitors, Dell instead plans to simply replace the monitors of unhappy customers.

The problem--which appears to be impacting only the $459 2007WFP--causes noticeable banding lines to appear where there should be smooth transitions from a light to darker color. Dell's Philip Ventimiglia, corporate director of displays marketing, says the issue stems from the monitor's active color management chip, which lets you choose from one of three viewing modes: desktop, multimedia, and gaming.

I found out per Chris M , on the Dell forums that they will be sending brand new monitors out to all who have had issues with color banding! :)
