Well, I know some people like to hold on to there secrets like a fat girl holding onto a jelly dognut, but for the sake of us noobs I was hoping we could gather some useful tips for new players to make O/Cers a kickass group of players (all O/Cers).

To start it off:

Here are a few things I've learned in my brief experience.

1) You must have a decent ping time...MUST!

2) A good optical mouse will improve acuracy vastly (trackball blow, I was using one up until a few days ago).

3) Keep moving!!!!!! Snippers are always wait for you to stop even for a second.

4) EDIT: oops! If you pick up someone else gear with the G key you loose your own stuff:(

5) Hit tanks in the rear with the granade launcher. I try to hit the rear undercarage if possible. You can take out a Tiger in 2 and the lighter tanks in 1 shot.

6) To avoid #6 get someone to cover your butt if your in a tank.

7) Oh yeah, heavy tanks will kick the snot out of light tanks in a shot out. Don't sit still.

8) engineers can fix things with the wrench (#6 key). Also you can rebuild an AA gun that has been completely wiped out.

9) Thanks to this site. When shooting down those damn planes lead with your machine gun. Not sure if you need to lead with AA guns I used a mixture of leading and direct fire and got decent results.

10) If you are right next to a tank it can't shoot you with the maching gun.

11) snipers seem to always pick the most obvious spot like the highest point in a window or windmill, etc. Try to find a spot thats not so obvious and look in spots that aren't as obvious for good snippers.

12) Scouts/snipers have binoculars (sp?) to spot targets for artilery. You look trhough the binoculars and click the left mouse button and the artilery person can see what you see for 2 minutes. You don't need to maintane the view, so once you click head for cover. Don't spot again until its requested. You end up changing the artilery guy's view while he is trying to shoot something and it screws his shot up if you do. Also, that tank with the gun that only turns horizontally 20-30 degrees is an artilery gun and has a long range so don't drive it into the middle of a tank battle and DON'T MOVE IT OR SHIPS WHILE SOMEONE IS SHOTTING!!!!! There are a lot of idiots that use the mobile artilery for transportation or think its cute to drive the ships with artilery guns. Don't.

Well, me experience is pretty limited, so more tips and insight would be greatly appreciated.

Tips on stratgy and team play are good to as noone wants to play as a team and it is the hardest thing to learn.

Grimdeath's BF1942 Engineers Tips:

IMHO, Engineers are one of the coolest classes to play.

1) 0% Friendly fire and an Engineer are a great combination (EA servers are great!)

2) Drop expacks at your feet while running from enemies and detonate them (0% FF required).

3) Use expacks to propel you up hills and onto building you can't normally get into (0% FF required). Open your parachute to touch down when necessary to avoid falling damage.

4) Wait for that guy in the jeep who's trying to run you over and drop a mine in front of you right before he hits you.

5) Drop mines in/on unoccupied enemy vehicles (ex. back of a jeep) (they will detonate when someone gets in and moves it).

6) Drop expacks at enemy spawn points and detonate them when they spawn. This is especially helpful when you are trying to take an enemy checkpoint and they are still spawning.

7) Learn to lead your shots with your rifle (it's the sniper rifle minus the zoom). Its a one shot kill to the head.

8) Two expacks thrown on top of any tank and detonated will destroy the tank.

9) Run and jump at the same time you throw an expack to toss it farther.

10) A lot of time a tank sees you get close to it carrying an expack the enemy will panic if he's a noob, bail-out, and try to shoot you himself. Simply jump in his tank and drive away (then kill him with his own tank).

11) Toss a few expacks in the back of your jeep and then ram it into an enemy tank (of course, exiting the vehicle before it impacts). If that didn't finish off the tank, just explode your expacks.

12) If you drop an expack on an air vent on top of a bunker it will fall to the floor inside the bunker; they'll never know what hit them.

Unrelated,

13) To use AA effectively you MUST lead your shots. The exploding puffs you see are the shells detonating; these do the damage. The color of the puffs indicates whether you hit or not. Dark black is a direct hit. Try to lead your shots so that the shells detonate on the aircraft. You will take them down every time.

14) AA guns are very effective at taking out jeeps, artilliary and personel carriers.

Anyone have any team play tips?

Never, NEVER stand in a window of a building... people can see the muzzle flash right on the edge of the fog, good snipers will put you down before you even get a chance to fire 3 rounds.

Your #3... With snipers the way they are, nothing short of being a new superman will get you going fast enough to dodge a lot of snipers, never run in a slightly straight line, keep going sidways, backwards, turning, it'll take you an age to get where you wanna go, but you will most likely live. LOL.

If you snipe, never be on a hill will ya? You stand out a mile...

If you are sniping, and someone has figured out where you are, RUN! Toss a few grenades as welcome presents when they are in range!

Don't bother waiting for planes, if you are closest, good, get it, if not, don't friggin' bother! Also applying, don't bother flying if you don't have a good joystick... Someone in that Zero or Bentwingbird will bring you down in a flash, not to mention the flack.

DO NOT bloody camp your takn in the enemies hangar... They've got too good at taking you out quickly. That or they will just leave you alone... Don't forget, two tanks spawn camping are two tanks not defending flags...

Where a map has it, watch out for people swimming across. Wake and Market Garden are the main ones for this. Snipe them, or get a snipers attention to them.

Don't go racing off in a tank. You are a sitting duck for everything, take along another tank if you can, and at least a few gropos' (ground pounders) for general support.

If you come up against another tank, keep moving, drive fast, straight past them so you can get their rear (of course, this exposes your rear if you are not careful). Don't bother shotting the front of a tank, you'll never get them quick enough.

If you are a medic, PLEASE HEAL TEAM-MATES!!

The best small team is one tank, one bazooka man, one medic, two engineers, and 5 infantry. Provides support for all the other team, infantry deals with other infantry, medic heals their team (duh) engineers can lay mines for ambushes, and also repair their tank, and the bazooka man can flank an enemy tank to help the tank in the team.

#10 depends on the lie of the ground...

In stalingrad, expect to die, everyone does countless times... Thats the way it happened in real life, and it happens in the game!

No matter the shape of the team, move together as one.

Um, I'm running out for now!

Remember Engineers can unfix enemy stuff! :D walk upto to a tank and goto work with the wrench......very good for taking out carriers !

You mean when they go near an enemy vehicle, they actually destroy it instead of repair it!?

If you plan on being in the air alot, pick a engienr, then you can land, repair your own ship and take back off.

If your with a tank, walk direlcy behind it if your afriad of snipers.

=P simple stuff I mean I played this game for awhile.. but I got board of being kicked for cheating hehe even whe nI didn't.

Personly I always take air, I dont get most kills but I help alot essp in attaks.

You dont need a joystick to fly a airplane !

You forgot the most important rule of all!!

If I'm chasing you in a plane.. don;t run.. you only delay the inevitable :)

Followed by the next rule if your chassing the carrot who is chassing the stick?

Yes you can sabortage as it's called in game good if you bail over an enemy ship!!! :D

I've heard rumors that EA will add hara-kiri to our inventory so we can just get it over with before you even start the plane;)

You're a pretty experienced player. Throw us dog-faces a couple of bones:D

Hey guys, here's a useful command if you're running BF on a less-than-suitable system. It should alleviate some of the jerkiness, but be warned, your frames will always be at 30 (as long as your computer can put up 30 fps). It looks kinda smooth. I don't use it on my main rig, because it can keep the frames up, but I do use it on my secondary, simply because the GF2 MX isn't the best for BF1942. Anyway, go to the console (`) and then type:

renderer.extrapolateframe 0

Now your FPS should stick around 30. Looks a bit strange, but if you're having severe problems with jerkiness/crappy framerates, give it a try.

Edit: If you don't like it, you can turn it off by typing renderer.extrapolateframe 1 in the console. ;)

True, but you are about 100x better with one.

nope. i have a joy stick and find using the mouse and keyboard much nicer and more precise. I out fly many peops online. so what does this mean? it means some find it better one way...and some like it the other.

Hmm, I find it much too difficult to pilot accurately with the mouse/keyboard. The mouse is super-sensitive and one over-aggressive turn will send you plummeting into the ocean. ;)

Joystick

Great tips all around.....I cant think of anymore that havent been said. I have one quick question though, what is a good joystick for this game? I dont really want to spend more the thirty bones cause this is the only game I will most likely use it in. Thanks

If you are going to snipe don't take the planes to get there! It really annoyes the good pilots how have to wait till it respawns cos you bailed over the enemy base! take a jeep park it out of range on the mini map as it will give you away. but don't take the plane as they are to valuable to use as quick fix to get to a good spot!

Also if you are going to be Using the ships or Aircraft chose the engineer and repair your ships! It's a team game and maps like corel island some people have to stay behind and repair! The winning team will always have all AA guns manned with mechanics several just running about the ship and a few pilots at the ready.

When flying against ships get low very low and the AA guns won't touch you if you can avoid flying over the deck then all the beter

If you have bombers up fly escort most people see them as easy targets fly above and behind and come down when needed (See Carrot and the stick flying tactics)

If you are in a bomber wait for gunners! most people don't and it's a very nasty suprise for pilots when they are on your 6!

If you need a gunner fly in low over the airstrip most experienced players will jump onboard (same as catching the jeep trick)

If your bomber is loaded to the brim with pilots and bombers let people get on the wings to act as paratroopers they also act as more gunners while airborne especaily if they have rocket Launchers! If you have a mechanic wingwalker they can fix you mid air!

If you come across the B17 get up and over it and drop a bomb on it.......it stops people bailing out.

On some maps such as most of the Road to Rome maps there are steep hills that you can't get up..... Use the grenade jump place a grenade at your feet and just as it detonates jump you will get up the wall and be able to out flank the enemy....WARNING some servers have freindly fire on which means you will kill yourself doing this and lose 2 points. If this is the case get a Tank by the hill and use it to jump to the higher ground!
