I read the recent review of these new drivers on Tom's hardware, and they seemed less than impressive when it came to performance gains, with Oblivion even dropping performance, I'm assuming Fallout 3 will suffewr the same drop.

But this brings me to my questions, and since a lot of people here have a lot of hardware to test this on I thought I'd ask here.

What's the lowest end nVidia card you can use for PhysX accelleration? And could I use my 8800GT for Physx if and when I upgrade to an ATI 4870 in the near future? Or do you need Geforce graphics AND physx?
Do the Graphics card and the physx card have to be in SLI? I'm assuming no since they can be two totally different cards?

Thanks.

8800GTS 512 here. Dropped fps in JK2, but that's a pretty old game. Going back to 180.43

No performance gain for me in Far Cry 2... even considering that my resolution is limited to 1280x1024 these days.. still ratbuddy's results are disappointing but nightelph's results are very convincing.. even though both of them have almost identical setups... ratbuddy can you test Far Cry 2 please?

Yeah give me a few.

edit: OK, I think the 'before' results are from 178.43 or whatever that last 178 WHQL was. The 'after' results are 180.48. All benches at stock clocks and averaged over 3 runs per AA setting.

1680x1050 Ultra High preset (old drivers)
2xAA - Min 41.61 Max 64.94 Avg 49.50
4xAA - Min 34.94 Max 54.74 Avg 41.69
8xAA - Min 24.56 Max 55.70 Avg 31.22

New drivers:
2xAA - Min 41.37 Max 70.02 Avg 52.12
4xAA - Min 41.50 Max 64.41 Avg 49.07
8xAA - Min 33.03 Max 61.11 Avg 42.49

edit again: Hmm, nice boost there.

im using multi mon in SLI (8800gts512's) and its AWESOME!

only my 2nd mon is old flat panel and looks like crap next to my 24 MVA dell.

BUT, if i put a vid over there, it seems to tear alot. tried different refresh rates and didnt help. Only tried with WMP, but will test other players to see if this is true. Happens even if nothing else is running on a comp, just a vid on 2nd mon.

i KNOW! Its the best thing since anything ever! FINALLY i can use two monitors and not have to stuff around the disabling SLi!!!!

The performance boost tis but a bonus

It appears so, but I'd want to get a 'working confirmation' from someone before throwing down cash.

---------------------------------------------------

Ratbuffy: I wonder why your gpu score didn't really go up?... And why is our cpu score so different, higher fsb due to lower multi on mine? I'm running 445x9 = 4005hmz. Memory at 1069mhz.

The scores I posted were flat-stock clocks on CPU and GPU. I'll try 445x9 but my memory might not do 1069.. can ya try it 1:1 5-5-5-15? What drivers were your 'before' results from? 178 or 180 series? (I see, 178.. My 'before' shot was 180 series beta, I believe. That might explain why no change in GPU score)

edit: oh yeah, I'm not some kind of rodent vampire exterminator.. It's ratbuDDy ;)

edit: Results attached, 445x9 1:1 5-5-5-15, stock GPU clocks, 180.48

Ah that might explain the score difference. My before Vantage score (as listed in my post) were 178s.

I'll see if I can do a bench this weekend, Sunday most likely, busy already.

LOL, whoops! ratbuDDy. My mistake.

hmmm tearing happens on main monitor as well now.

Im wondering if its my Codec pack, or the drivers.

Will investigate more after a reformat.

I noticed an average of 10% increase in fps in Left 4 Dead, but had to revert as it kept crashing me. Real shame, I cant seem to get it working stable.

Its a shame to pay almost 600 dollars for a video card and then have that card held back by drivers. I honestly think that these new cards can do 10 times better than what they do but Nvidia isnt letting drivers out that will allow full potential of the card!
