Just read an enlightening page about this subject here.

Does anyone worry about this or take any of the action(s) outlined? Has anyone ever had a problem due to running BOINC? They go on to mention that optimized clients are rather a risk. I do banking on this rig and needless to say, I don't wan't any problems

I havent done any of the actions like most people i just downloaded Boinc and the optimised apps and set it going. I have crunched Boinc since it came out and i have had no problems with security.

I have been running this project since day one, and have used many optimizations. I am careful to use the optimizations that are highly regarded and have seen much peer review.

I have never had any problem, not even when installed as a service under the administrator login.

The author is not wrong, he is just very very careful. Belt and suspenders
