Gentlemen,

I have been away from the PC gaming world for quiet sometime. The very last time which I was involved in building a PC for myself was in 2006 where I had a single core AMD 3700+ San Diego with a GeForce 7800 GTX. Right now I am shooting for about a $1500 budget. I see that there are new powerful CPU architectures out today so I would like to get the opinion of people who use them. Can you guys give me a heads up on what to look at in terms of what type of motherboard and manufacturer I should look at if say i want to build an i7 core system from the ground up. Can you also please tell about RAM? Thanks in advance. :santa:

Combo of 8GB ram and GTX 570:

Combo of 2500k and MSI P67A-GD65

Total so far: $1,334
MIR: -$70

Total after rebates: $1264

Do you need a CD drive($20), OS, and case?
Operating system all depends on if you can upgrade, ect.

I recommend this case:

also you said you wanted an i7?..the i7 2600k is $100 more than the i5 2500k..difference is hyper threading in the i7

I love that cooler master case. I built a system for a friend of mine a while back and this is the one he bought. Very rugged and sturdy yet good looking. I saw that the AMD HD 6990 seems to be the best graphics card right now. This is likely what I will be shooting for.

This is what I would do. Pretty similar to the build Char posted with all the components included.

Thanks for the info Knufire. So the Sandy Bridge is the new star on the team when it comes to OCing?

Almost all hit 4.5+ with good air cooling. A good majority hit 5.

AMD is about to release a new line of CPUs using their new Bulldozer chip. Bringing back the FX brand because it's rumored to finally take the performance crown back from Intel.

Currently, can you wait a month? Bulldozer is almost out. Gives you more room to play with as it'll change market prices.

Yes not a problem. I will be looking to purchase sometime in October so this will give me time to see what this Bulldozer chip can do.

Will do Marshmallow64. Im gearing up for Skyrim and hopefully Ill finally be able to play Crysis at enjoyable FPS :)
