Colorsit 400W (mfg 2005)
- In a working condition and no faults found when using it.
- It has a tube fuse inside.
- All dust cleaned inside PSU and such.
- I checked all capacitors none is bulking.
- Changed 120mm fan(Young Ling) to Noctua's best one with better CFM=60-70.

It is an original PSU for a computer that is build in 2005.

- Is this really a bad PSU or a decent reliable one for an old AMD 64 AGP computer from 2005.
- People say that all "no-name" PSUs are bad because Antec happened to sell bad ones in around 2003.

NOTE!
1.) I'm not using a state of art modern machine so I'm just trying to find if it is safe. Power usage is around 250W.:D

2.) I want to use it if it is a good one. Not planning to buy a new modern 100usd$/euro€ PSU which has all kinds of plugs+connectors that I don't need.

CIT 500W of the same era make fine fire starters and HDD killers when they give up, unsure whether they're all cut from the same cloth though.

I'd avoid using it.

Ive never heard of the brand and have no idea who the maker is. Being 2005, its 13 years old, and being a no name brand, its likely garbage. If it wasn' then, it probably is now.

LOL, Antec had nothing to do with no name PSUs being bad. MOST antec's were good, actually.

1. WHo knows... I wouldn't use it unless I had to.
2. Ok.. that is your choice and risk.

Why not spend less? If your system is drawing 250W, then a quality 450W PSU will be fine... those can be had for $50-75 really...

It looks like an old channel well unit... Like an old, not very good cwt unit. I would avoid like the plague.

I concur with what others have said. You can pick up a 650W Seasonic M12-II for a tad over $35 (AMIR)

Electrolytic capacitors de-rate precipitously after their specced lifetime and so do active components, especially transistors diodes. I would be a bit careful. While your PSU may not burst into flames, you are taking a chance by dusting off a no-name, 15yr old clunker which was probably rated for peak power instead of continuous power.
This is an interesting read about capacitor derating:
