For xmas my dad got me this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138190&Tpk=ta890gxe

What i asked for was this:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=6076244&CatId=5541

There is no reason to keep the gxe is there, i have a video card, i want ot be able to xfire eventually, and my memory is 1600 base, so im pretty sure there is no benifit to the gxe i will ever realise and the fxe is simply a better board in every way... just wanted your guys .02 before i moved on anything...

If you plan on doing XFire then the 890FXE is the one you want.

Did your dad buy at a local "brick-and-mortar" shop? Maybe he went in looking for the 890FXE and a shrewd salesman talked him into getting the GXE... This happened to me when I went to CompUSA to see if they had the 890FXE a couple weeks ago. The guy tells me flat out that the FXE is not in stock, but that they have better ones and proceeds to show me a bunch of boards with 770 and 870 chipsets. I tried telling him that I the board I needed had the 890FX chipset and that "THAT" is what I was after and he counterd with "But this one has just as many memory slots and video card slots, so it's just as good!" I damn near punched him right then and there.

I say get it exchanged for the FXE.

Don't go too hard on ol' Dad. He was trying to make you happy and if he's anything like mine he'll be kicking himself for screwing up. Be gentle on him and tell him you love him more than anything else besides Mom in the whole world and that you really need to exchange this board for the right one. :grouphug:
