Hi, just a quickie. A Q9550 should arrive in a few days. Using an E8400 (3GHz) for about 2 months running at 4GHz. everything’s stock, with a Gigabyte GA-EP45-DS3R. I run a cam 27/7, and server, with mP3’s feeding a small FM broadcast station.
Funny thing is I did that at 3GHz with no problems.
I intend to use the Q9550 in the same MB. Will there be any difference ?, will something be noticeable ?.
The aim was to ensure the cam and server ran smooth while I surfed the web, or watched a video. Rams 8gig (4x2) Kingston. A friend runs a similar system down the hall but clocks at 4.2GHz, however, with extra cooling.

I doubt you'd even notice the difference for your application. Penryn is essentially a couple wolfdales stuck together afterall.

Your right, TimoneX,
Running the Q9550 now at 3.307 GHz in the same board.

Started coughing at 3.4 ! [ may be a lemon ]

Been stable since I clocked it. [ only the FSB].
Strange, the E8400 Seemed faster.
It’s using the standard cooler, so maybe it’s as far as it’ll go without extra cooling.

If this chip can’t hit 4GHz and remain stable, I’ve wasted the money.
I’d buy a high end cooler if I knew it was worthwhile, but nobody seems to be able to confirm that.

Grabbed this while watching a video. Are these readings ok for an OC at
3.3 GHz ?. Rock steady here, just wondering why it claps-out at 3.4 GHz
when nothing looks near critical.
