When I turn of my computer the fan on my Corsair TX650 makes a ticking noise as it slows down.

Would that be the bearing giving up? Would I need to replace the PSU? Could I just replace the fan?

Please advice on the matter.

The noise only comes up when I shut down the computer.

It most likely is the fan bearing. You can replace the fan pretty easily, just splice in a new one.

The best way I can describe the sound is "it sounds like an old car failing" or as if "the fan were hitting something".

It doesn't happen always though. I haven't heard it today.

In that case NiHaoMike is probably right. Just replace the fan and see if it fixes the issue.
