Hey, so im kinda new to the whole computer enviroment, but i recently bought a ASUS P8Z77-V PRO motherboard and 8gigs of Corsair Vengeance DDR3-1866 RAM. After I made the purchases, I scrolled down to the bottom of the specs page to find out the RAM types available for my mobo and it read:
DDR3-2600/PC3-20800 (O.C.)
DDR3-2400/PC3-19200 (O.C.)
DDR3-2200/PC3-17600 (O.C.)
DDR3-2133/PC3-17000 (O.C.)
DDR3-2000/PC3-16000 (O.C.)
DDR3-1866/PC3-15000 (O.C.)
DDR3-1800/PC3-14400 (O.C.)
DDR3-1600/PC3-12800
DDR3-1333/PC3-10600

Does this mean I have to OC to get my mobo to use the RAM i bought? If so, How would i go about doing this, since i haven't done overclocking before.

Someone with more technical knowledge on the subject might be able to give you a definitive answer on this, but I would be surprised if this meant you "had" to OC to get the RAM to work.

It's more like you will have memory ratio up to 2600/PC3-20800 but ASUS support may not help you if you will have any issues above 1600/PC3-12800.
Actually I had that situation on other boards and I got answer that they won't provide help in overclocking and any settings marked as OC are not guaranteed.
It of course doesn't mean that you can't run memory at higher clock. Almost all more standard ASUS boards ( read not ROG series ) have that info and I think it's just to save problems for support as they won't be able to help anyway.

Yep, what Woomack said. All you have to do is manually set the memory voltage, speed and timings in your BIOS. Or just choose the XMP profile and let the board do it for you.

Apparently XMP settings dont work for me, and cause my system to keep going into restart mode. Its ok though since i know how to get out of that. Im actually stuck at my frequency being at 1632.

Disable XMP and set VCCIO voltage from Auto (1.066V) to 1.1V, and no more than 1.20V. This w/ the DRAM freq. at DDR3-1866, the DRAM voltage and four primary timings set to match what the modules are rated at.
