This case was extremely well publicized. He was stupid and it cost him. This was not a good case for the government to use as their precedent setter and so they to were stupid from their end.

It does show precisely why you need to get permission to run any project software on any machine you don't personally own. Stats are not worth even one paycheck or one second in jail. :/
