Ok, a friend of mine is upgrading his PC.

we are looking for suggestions, to possibly make this better. mind you, he has MAXED OUT his budget. We have already factored in S&H, which pretty much max's his budget of about $1100.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103191 - AMD AM2 6400+

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130305 - EVGA Nvidia 8800 SSC.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131011 - ASUS M2N32-SLI Deluxe. ( mind you, took us HOURS to find exactly what he needed. it NEEDS at least 1 PATA, and 2 PCI.

http://shop4.outpost.com/product/5439699 - 4GB PC6400 DUAL C4 OCZ RAM

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827106070 - a SATA DVD burner. Buying this stops him from NEEDING 2 PATA's on the motherboard.

http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/thermalright-ultra-120-extreme-cpu-cooler-p-16580.html - the Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811103010 - And the case. He likes the 2 big 250mm fans.

he already has a PSU that can handle the system. though, he'd LIKE to be able to get a better one...but it won't fit in the budget. But, anyone have any suggestions for a good, but not too expensive PSU that may work?

Also, he is NOT going to go intel for anything. He's a AMD fanboy. so the mere suggestion is not even worth the time it will take to type it.

he's not much of an overclocker either. he doesn't have a problem OC'ing a CPU by a few hundred Mhz. but other than that, he's not much of a OC'er. hence why he picked out the 6400+

Sooo...Any suggestions? any comments? concerns? Anything in this list that could be killed off, and replaced with something that is equal in performance, or better for the same price or cheaper?

if your friend is not gonna overclock much, then he might be fine with the stock cooler or a arctic freezer 64(something cheaper that will get the job done.)

he'd rather have the 120-E, due to reliability, and to ease his nerves. He's had some crappy Heatsinks in the past on older setups...and every time, he wishes he would have chosen something better.

ontop of that, the Air conditioning in his room hasn't been known to be that reliable...and in the summer, due to all his electronics, multiple computers, monitors..etc..it can get kinda warm im there.

hell, in the winter, his room will be in the mid 70's, without any form or *normal* heating. ( aka: he taped shut the heater duct to his room, so when the heat in the house was turned on, it wouldn't go into his room ). yet, there will be snow on the ground outside.

that, and he'll be running the CPU at full load 24/7.

I would be said friend. (Interesting, that WAS my password to log onto here... I thought I had forgotten it.)

If that GTS isn't the G92 Core, (Updated one) which I don't think it is. Get the 8800GT, it's faster and cheaper.

THANKS!!!

you just saved my friend 75 bucks, which will allow him to possibly get a new PSU!

EDIT:ya know...i think i'm just going to let Aethis ( the friend i'm talking about ) post in this thread, so we don't double up the posts.

VS
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130305 (One I chose earlier)
The GT does appear to have a faster core clock, and more stream processors as well as make use of the PCI-e 2.0 type, it's slightly lower in RAM and is 256-bit. Hmm...

Edit: Upon further looking, it's come to my attention the cards seem to have the fans on them stuck at 29% of use, even under load. Causing burnouts, freezing, artifacts, damage, etcetra.

....wtf?

EditEdit:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130302 So it has a slightly higher clocking... But for a higher price... Go for the lower price, OC it a bit, and get http://www.heatsinkfactory.com/thermalright-hr-03-plus-vga-cooler-nvidia-8800-series-p-16561.html that Zex suggested to me on IRC?
