dvd-r seen as cd?

whenever i put a blank dvd-r into my NEC dvd burner, my computer reads the blank disk as a cd. wtf? how do i fix this?

i haven't had a chance to try it yet, but given the warning that you gave me, how do i flash my burner? is it self-explainitory?

If you mean that when you insert a blank DVD the drive name turns into "CD Drive (E: )" where E is your drive letter, this is normal. You will be able to burn that DVD in Nero or any other DVD burning program.

EDIT: I have the NEC ND-3500A too and that's what happens when I insert a DVD+R (Ridata)

well, i tried dvdshrink and it just keeps telling me to put a disc in the drive

i'm hijaking my own thread a little for this, but it was amusing. i went to best buy to find a usb 2.0 card for a laptop and was waiting for one of the "geek squad" people to finish explaining to his coworker the difference between pci and pci express

Well DVDShrink rips movies off DVD's so when you insert a blank DVD-R there's nothing to rip. A blank DVD is recognized as a CD I guess until you burn something onto it.
