If you mean that when you insert a blank DVD the drive name turns into "CD Drive (E: )" where E is your drive letter, this is normal. You will be able to burn that DVD in Nero or any other DVD burning program.

EDIT: I have the NEC ND-3500A too and that's what happens when I insert a DVD+R (Ridata)

i'm hijaking my own thread a little for this, but it was amusing. i went to best buy to find a usb 2.0 card for a laptop and was waiting for one of the "geek squad" people to finish explaining to his coworker the difference between pci and pci express :)

Well DVDShrink rips movies off DVD's so when you insert a blank DVD-R there's nothing to rip. A blank DVD is recognized as a CD I guess until you burn something onto it.
