This is my first computer build. Only had 3 computer in my life and 2 have treated me well. Had an old Compaq from 98 to 2005(still worked just gave it to a needy person) costed $2700 new. Now I am using a Dell i got December 2005 and haven't had any trouble with it except it's too slow to play newer games now. $1000 even

Right now I have all the parts in my wish list that I want, but wanna make sure they are good. I hope the links work. Gonna use windows 7 and I already have a decent video card. Trying to keep it under $800. I like newegg but I have to pay taxes on stuff from there so tigerdirect is cheaper. The main thing I am concerned about is which Motherboard to buy. Thanks for the help, I posted something similar to this on another forum and they told me to go intel or i have no balls. $1000 to $300 for amd.......I have only had Intel, but AMD price has got me. I know the quad cores are faster, but I want to try to future proof a little with 6.

So pretty much is the HDD ok? What motherboard is best with 1090t? Pretty sure that power supply is crap, can someone suggest one similar at a similar price point?

First, WELCOME!!!! :)

Please list the hardware along with the links so those helping dont have to click on 7 different things to help! :)

After clicking on everything, I see a Coolmax PSU. I would get something better, like a Corsair 550VX. As far as the HDD, get a Western Digital Caviar Black over a Hitachi.

Thank you. I think I cleaned it up a little, colors make things easier :D.

I have always had a fascination with taking stuff apart and putting it together so this should be a fun experience. Btw, my mom is buying this for me so I need to keep the price down a little. Started at $800 and something but got it down to around $718, then she got an unexpected 3k christmas bonus so i added the 1090t and upgraded a few things. Trying to convince her the PS3 has a great blu ray player in it.

I would like to have a 1TB HDD and the WD Black is $20 more, is it worth that?
Power supplies scare me. I have never had to change one, but lots of people have tons of problems. I shut my computers down everynight so they get a nice little break.
Which motherboard would be the best mate to the 1090t, I like the crosshair IV, but read some stuff about the sound card thing it has.

Yes that drive is worth it over the Hitachi.

The PSU you listed should scare you, the one I listed, shouldnt. ;)

Not sure about AMD mobo's. Since its the 1090t which has an unlocked multiplier, if you overclock, just about any decent mobo will be fine. Just make sure it has the features you want/need (USB3, Sata6, etc).

The price of the one you showed me scared me. After a lot of reading though, learned you need to splurge on a good power supply so I will have to see what I can talk mom into.

As for the hard drive, I may have to go with a smaller one. I have a jar of change and 3 car batteries I need to take off, so maybe that would help out a little. Batteries are $25 and atleast $40 in the jar. Last time I cashed it in it was almost entirely pennies and was $150........the people at the store where the coinstar was got a little angry when it took us soooo long to do it. But money is money.

The motherboard you have chosen is good, even though most people prefer asus and gigabyte, I think this is the one motherboard that msi got it right on. If anything change the power supply since it is the most important piece.

For the harddrive you can shoot for the 640 gb wd black that supposedly performs better than its 1 tb counterpart.

I know Ultra's higher wattage models are good, not sure about their lower end.

Read the PSU guide that is linked in my signature for known good brands. But honestly, that corsair would be my choice regardless of the modest price increase. Maybe drop back to a 1070 hex to get the better PSU. Why do you want a hex anyway?

Not too sure why, but I figure I might as well get the best one with the price so close. I'm not sure what I will do I like to dab into everything. Maybe do some modeling and rendering. Mostly gaming though.

I just have to tell my mom that the power supply motherboard and Cpu are the main parts of the computer and no need to go cheap on them.

Found the 640gb wd black would it be worth the extra $5 to go from 32mb cache to 64mb cache?

If your doing mostly gaming if anything a higher clocked quad core will do you just fine. The Phenom II 970 would be my choice. 3.5 X4 black edition.

Yeah, I have read that quads are better for gaming, but the difference isn't too much from what I have seen. In life more is better usually, and feels good to say you have 6 cores.

I read through the power supply recommendations list, may have found a decent one in my price range. Has nothing to do with this , but I got this little netbook I'm on for free randomly in the mail one day from my brother. I love this little thing but I just checked and im at 69C browsing the web....sad.

I think if I can keep it around or under $800 I should be fine money wise. So far got a new computer after 7years....now im at 5years on the Dell. If I can get anywhere close to that kinda life outta this rig I will be happy

Antec Earthwatts 650watts $70
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817371015&Tpk=antec earthwatts 650w

Its a $12 difference for a better PSU, but if that earthwatts was on the list I referred you to, go for it.

I'm going to go through and add all the prices up with shipping and tax and see what I have to work with.

$840 total with your psu and the hdd
