thanks a lot you guys.

Can confirm it works greatly on 1.0 revision board. Taken it from 1960 to 970.

Result?

Sorry for the bump.

I have a rev 2.

BIOS is 1.4 v
Idle is 1.36 v
Load (small FFT) is 1.344 V

No pencil mod.

I thought my vdroop was quite severe at one point, but it's only 0.016 v. Am I reading it wrong? I was going to do the pencil mod, but it doesn't look like there's much point, since my cooler seems to be near its limit, and all the mod would do is slightly increase load volts when I can't significantly increase the vcore anyway.

you can run your vcore up more unless temps are holding you back. 1.55 or less is fine for a 65nm chip.

I dont think you will see any perk to doing a Vmod to your mobo with as little Vdroop your getting.

If you have any other questions please ask! and welcome to the forums friend!

I'm comfortable with anything under 1.6, since I will probably be upgrading this system 1 last time before tuition+books+reduced work time will start to rape me in Sept.:( I'm hitting ~57C full load and 63C with IBT. I seem to have hit a bit of a volt/fsb wall where I know I'll need at least 1.5 to hit 3.6, and this cooler will be hitting very high temps with that + summer (I live in BC, so for like 7-8 months of the year, ambient is <20c). Unless I find a nice deal on some watercooling parts, I doubt I'll be seeing >3.4.

Anyway I was just posting because I was curious about my low vdroop.

TY for the welcome.=)

Thank you so much this mod is great!!!
I penciled down to 833 ohms and here are my results
pre: Idle 1.392
load 1.360

post: Idle 1.408
load 1.408

is it necessary to remove CPU and ram when making OHM readings ? Also someone suggested to secure the mod with some clear/scotch tape, guys do this?

^ naw not necessary to take it even out of the case! just make sure its off.

as far as scotch tape i could see how it might help but honestly it wont come off unless compressed air is blown on it.

success

Here's some data from my q9550 and GA-P35 DS3L

Stock: 1958 ohms bios voltage: 1.31875v
idle: 1.28v
load: 1.232v

Mod1: 990 ohms bios voltage: 1.31875v
idle: 1.28v
load: 1.26v

Mod2: 708ohms bios voltage: 1.28125v
idle: 1.264v
load: 1.248v

I had to lower voltage from 1.31, because it actually reported 1.31 in the bios, should I stop here or pursue this further?

Update: crunching prime 95 small fft's 16 hours and going, it is stable at 1.28125v. I had to get use 1.31875v before and stability was still questionable !

The mod wore off with electrical tape used to secure it. :bang head Trying some scotch tape now. I noticed some thing though say the voltage in the bios is 1.28 id get vdroop from 1.26 to 1.248. Now at 1.29 in bios my voltage is 1.26 idle and 1.26 load so vdroop eliminated entirely? 646 ohms now on my q9550 @ 1.29v in bios.

ok guys, actually found this thread from Google :)

Sorry its my 1st post....but since this is something useful...why nt :)
Actually I have gt an EP31-DS3L a few days back and was fighting with it to get to 3.6Ghz stable on my Q6600 and the huge vdroop was a big downer :(

Now bumped into the thread and found that no solution is yet available for the ISL 6334 based EP35-DS3L and EP31-DS3L....looked into the mod pics of the vanilla P35-DS3L and the usual spec sheets of the ISL 6312 (old) and ISL 6334(new).Had some high resolution shots of my mobo , and so figured out the pencil mod :)....I knew it could be hit and miss but still went on and tried it. Bingo and I was 100% correct on finding the correct resistor and its working 100%

Here the pic and explanation of the mod

About the Results here it is :

Q6600 @ 3.6Ghz
Pre Pencil mod :

Bios --- 1.5375 V
Idle --- 1.49V
Load(OCCT 4 cores) --- 1.42V

Post Pencil mod

Bios --- 1.48 V
Idle --- 1.44V
Load(OCCT 4 cores) --- 1.41V

Hope this helps :)

Oh and ya thnx to all the blokes for the original P35-DS3L mod w/o which this wouldn't have been possible :)
Also should I rather create a new thread for this :p

Thanks,
Supra/Regenade

where is the pic i can't see it no more :( i'm really in need of that pic i want to pencil mod my ep35-ds3l !! please anybody can re-upload it or tell me how to do this for my ep35-ds3l !! thanks :grouphug:
