My Problem:
( For the speedreader: Windows hates my sata drive and I don't know what to do )

Recently, due to some complications with my previous motherboard, Lanparty PRO875B, I had to purchase a new one. I bought the ASUS P4S800D-X. However, my harddrive remained untouched and I thought all my files would remain intact and all I would have to do is plug it into my new motherboard and load it on up and get back to being a happy guy. This is not the case...

I plug everything in and my computer boots perfectly up until the part where it loads windows. It flashes the windows loading screen, the one with the blue bar that moves back in forth at the bottom, and then the computer just restarts and loops this over and over again.

I figured there was some issue with my windows installation so I went to run checkdisk on the repair function of the windows xp cd. I went to run it and hit R to enter Repair. This is when I receive the message that windows is unable to find a hard drive and can not continue. Oh great, my bios finds the diskdrive perfectly but windows ( :argue: ) isn't able.

I start hitting up the search function to find the problem and see if I can't fix it myself, to no avail. So here I am now with my bios recognizing my hard drive and windows unable to. I would love any helpful input or solutions someone out there may have, thank you.

Either post here or AIM me please;

THANKS AGAIN!

when you try to repair, load the SATA drivers for the ports. It's possible the SATA controllers on that board are not native to the chipset, and would require drivers.

FYI, changing motherboards is never a good option with a previous XP install, unless the chipsets are identical. Even then, it's still not foolproof.

loading the drivers for the SATA controller. Press F6 when prompted by Windows Setup to load SCSI drivers. You will need them on a floppy disk. Download from Asus and create the disk.

I've been trying to do that when my windows loads and it says to press f6 I slam it down as many times as I can and it acts as if I never touched it. :(

Yes -
I have the f-lock key enabled when I try to press the button.
Should I have the floppy with the drivers I think are correct (not sure cause I'm dumb in this kind of thing) already fully inserted before pressing the key or wait until I get the screen I am supposed to get but I dont ?

Thanks for all your help again

it doesn't matter. You'll get a prompt for when to insert it.

On another note, i'm not familiar with that board. Is there any option in BIOS to set the mode of the SATA controller to Enhanced or Compatible?

I don't believe there is they have options for Enabling Onboard Sata controller or disabling it, mines set on enabled.

Another sad story for today I was going to buy a ABIT board but they didnt have anymore of them in stock so he gave me the asus.. :(
