When I was stationed at Kirtland AFB (in Albuquerque) way back in the late 70's early 80's I had the privileged opportunity to visit the processor manufacturing factory at Intel brand new facilityd located in Rio Rancho (just over the river from Abq). We had to don what seemed like bio-hazard suits, get blasted in over-pressure air locks, had to swear on our mother's lives we would not touch anything or reveal any trade secrets, but we got to go in and watch them make some of the very first 80286 processors. It was fascinating and remarkably, done very much the same way today - only on a much larger (and smaller!) scale.
