250GB O/S, 3X750GB + 3X500GB "files" collection ... but all the big drives are stored
out of p.c , and I connect them through Thermaltake BlackX Esata box.

Used to have 1gb, but now over 2.5tb. Given my big change, and probably a bunch more, it might be worth starting a new thread.

In college I was always out of space, I had a ton of storage for the time at around 900gb (4 years ago). These days however, I don't even come close to filling the 250gb drive I put in this system when I built it new. I think Ive got somewhere around 180gb open.

2002 I had 4gig HDD with 500mb of free space. Then a 120gig... filled that up in about a year.. Now I have a 160gig + 400gig + 250gig external. I have about 140gigs of free space total...

5.2 TB full. :(

Guys, what should I do? I want an external box but they only usually hold 4 HDDs, I need something that can hold like.. 10.

There is plenty out of the box options. A nice server rack would work.

My pick would be go FreeNaS and use a case that has features that suite you. Or build a custom enclosure.

Overall the price would be lower than going to a prebuilt NaS solution. Plus you will have more control.

3rd post :)

Now, I'm over 10TB! What is wrong with me? :p

DIY a regular ATX case. I modded my Antec SOLO to hold 10 HD's. 6 Down low by way of custom brackets, and a "4-in-3" 5.25" bay with its own 120mm fan. All 10 HD's have cool air blowing directly on them, too. I tossed in a good Areca RAID card (ARC-1220), and a cheap P5B-E and an extra e6320 I had laying around. It is one FAST NAS!!! :D

Sounds great. I think I need a new case anyways, my Wavemaster is teeny tiny.

Currently at 9TB, 7.7 full.

My work Macs have a total of 5tb of space and my personal computers (4 of them) have a combined space of 3tb. So, 8tb in total for me.

I think the more important question is how much hdd space have you used?

On my gaming PC I have 2 80GB raptors in a raid 0, a 74GB raptor, and a 300GB WD.
On my server have have 2 40s in a raid 1 and 4 1TBs in a raid 5.

The 3TB array on my server is 98% full. =(

What the heck are you doing to fill up 3TB???

I have lots of anime and I'm nowhere near 2/3 of a TB of storage.

This is a good question, and fun reading what others say. I tried something I haven't done before a RAID 0. I have two HDD that i RAID'ed together and now have a max space of 2tb (i use about 10% of it, but darn if I am not cool hahaha)

1.3 TB

Hey all,

I currently have 2*250 Gb Seagate 7200.10 single platter in RAID0 and a 640 Gb Seagate 7200.11 for backup.

My main rig reports 75gig but I also have a 250gig portable I use sometimes. I have never tried to do raid, dont know much about it.

My current machine, I have a 160gb drive, a 240gb drive, and a 500gb external drive (WD myBook).

Contemplating storage for my new machine, I'm thinking I will go 2 x74 gb raptors in raid 0 for OS and apps, 2 x 1TB drives (or where ever the best price point is) in a matrix raid of raid 1 for hundred or two gigs for important personal docs/files, and the rest in raid 0 for file storage that is replaceable.
