Thanks Middo :)
Hope you are having a nice holiday!

kimochii72, any progress? Guys, just as a reminder, be very careful if you plan to use high voltage memory with your killer low voltage Opterons. I wouldn't recommend exceeding 3.3V if your VCore is less than 1.5V.

Why is that?

Just a thing that I noticed with my own setup is that when I was running low voltage Geil ram from my other setup I was able to run at 2.8ghz with about 1.5v stable but then when I switched to my redline I had to increase the voltage to 1.55v + 104% to be stable. I was just wondering if that has anything to do with what your saying.

Because of this.

You want to try and keep the ratio between your Vdimm and Vcore within reasonable levels. What, exactly, is a reasonable level, I haven't been able to determine yet. It's not the absolute values that matter so much as the difference bewteen Vdimm and Vcore.

Very interesting, has this been discussed here at the forums before? this is the first time I'm hearing about it.

Nade, you put me in with the 148's, when I have a 146. Im also up to 1.7v @ 3000GHz, but im not sure if its stable yet. I need to do some Prime runs

Fixed that. Why do you need 1.7V VCore? Aren't your temps skyrocketing? Be careful Middo, that is not very safe if you don't have temps under control (< 48C load). I don't think you need 1.7V.

Hey SuperNade, if you'd like, you can throw in my results for a bunch of Opterons that I tested over in this thread. Here's what I got . . .

CPU #1 – Opteron 148 CABYE 0543 FPMW: 2.87GHz (1.59VID)
CPU #2 – Opteron 148 CABYE 0543 FPMW: 2.86GHz (1.55VID)
CPU #3 – Opteron 148 CAB2E 0545 CPAW: 2.95GHz (1.62VID)
CPU #4 – Opteron 146 CABNE 0545 BPMW: 2.93GHz (1.629VID)
CPU #5 – Opteron 146 CABNE 0545 BPMW: 2.95GHz (1.62VID)
CPU #6 – Opteron 146 CABNE 0545 BPMW: 2.99GHz (1.66VID)
CPU #7 – Opteron 146 CABYE 0540 MPMW: 3.03GHz (1.500 VID)

I tested 8 but I left the last CPU out because I'm going to remove the heat spreader and put on it a Maze4-1 with a 245W/320W TEC to see how much further it goes. I'll report the final results when I'm done. :)

^^ Mate, could you give me a ballpark figure for the temps you encountered. Clearly, it's a chore to dig up precise temps for all those Optys. Boy, do you have deep pockets or what! I'm curious, did you rob any banks in Indy? We have had a spate of robberies. (j/k!) :D :santa:

It's no chore. :) Unforuntately I stopped recording the idle temps because they were all arouund 24-26C. The load temps are in the thread I started but I'll post them here for your convenience. They are as folllows

CPU #1 – Opteron 148 CABYE 0543 FPMW: 2.87GHz (1.59VID)
Highest load temp: 68C
CPU #2 – Opteron 148 CABYE 0543 FPMW: 2.86GHz (1.55VID)
Highest load temp: 68C
CPU #3 – Opteron 148 CAB2E 0545 CPAW: 2.95GHz (1.62VID)
Highest load temp: 41C
CPU #4 – Opteron 146 CABNE 0545 BPMW: 2.93GHz (1.629VID)
Highest load temp: 48C
CPU #5 – Opteron 146 CABNE 0545 BPMW: 2.95GHz (1.62VID)
Highest load temp: 56C
CPU #6 – Opteron 146 CABNE 0545 BPMW: 2.99GHz (1.66VID)
Highest load temp: 44C
CPU #7 – Opteron 146 CABYE 0540 MPMW: 3.03GHz (1.500 VID)
Highest load temp: 44C

As for affording all these CPUs, I'm planning on selling them off. I already sold one and I have 6 more to go. When all is said and done, I probably wouldn't have spent as much as some folks spend on an FX57. :)

1.7V is fine, im running watercooling, so at times my temps hit 51*C, but its usually around 45-47*C load

You guys are getting some really nice results. I wish I currently had the money to pick one of these up.

Well my Christmas rig was a little late on getting put together. (motherboard turned out to be bad) Got another mb shipped and ran stock for two days. Tonight I upped the voltage and ran straight to 2.8. That was pretty safe, so I had to find out if 3gig was possible....

Opteron 148 @3005mhz on water (DangerDen Maze 1C, old but good)
CABYE 0543 Idle 29C Load 44C
DFI LanParty Ultra-D
Corsair XMS3500 (2 x 512)
EVGA 7800GT @ 500 1200 (still some room here) on stock cooling

I will try to reduce the voltage some and see if it stays stable. I ran SuperPi for about 40 minutes and no problems. Played FEAR for an hour with no problems as well.

Kid

damn u guys are running like 1.65 and 1.7volts and im nervous bout running 1.58 .. and my load temps dont break 43c under dual priming

This is kind of sick :D
I want to see how long your chips last. SNade needs to set up a pole "How long before your Opti went out with a bang in a puff of smoke?". (caugh, caugh).

I can get 2960mhz on my 148 w/ 1.45v and prime runs fine. At 3000mhz all seems fine in windows but prime fails in 1 minute. At 3000mhz and 1.475v prime fails in 4 minutes. I do not know how much voltage is safe. I am using a SI-120 heatsink. My computer is at 33C now and it was at 45 while running prime. Right now I am at 3000mhz and 1.475v. Any suggestions?
