i installed directx 9 will it affect my performance any on a directx 8.1 card

i wanted to see if the catalyst 3.0 drivers would solve my UT problem. so i installed directx 9 because ati's site say's to do that for the drivers. anyways the drivers wouldnt install. so now i got the new omega drivers back on. will having my ati radeon 8500le 128mb card run on directx 9 make any difference from running it on 8.1?

It might in newer games, due to more efficient DX 8.1 coding in DX 9
