Max 230Mhz BCLK

I had all but given up after I found my initial max Bclk 32M Pi stable BCLK of 220Mhz with tight 878mhz 7-7-7-17 timings.

But I'd like to thank Hazzan (233BCLK) and Solarfall (230BCLK) for their inspiration with their DFI UT X58-T3EH8 max BCLK attempts as this prompted me to keep working at it :thumb:

After numerous bios reboots and trying looser timings and a few voltage combinations, I finally surpassed my previous max memtest86+ v2.11 bootable BCLK of 224, moving all the way up to 230-231 memtest bootable. :woot:

Enough for a quick boot into windows for a CPUZ Validation at least :D

Max BCLK Super Pi 32M Benchable

Triple Channel CPUZ Validation @229Bclk
Haven't pushed ICH 1.5 Voltage yet like I did for 230Bclk, so that will be next up for testing.

QPI Frequency = 4123Mhz!

Super Pi 32M
Ignore the times just testing with loose timings. Higher Bclk do require more vdimm that usual due to QPI ceiling. Without enough vdimm DFI post diagnostic LED = CF code for lack of vdimm voltage.

@226Bclk bios set - QPI Frequency = 4063Mhz

spi32m_9m01s750ms.png

@226Bclk setFSB windows set - QPI Frequency = 4074Mhz

spi32m_9m00s468ms.png

@227Bclk - QPI Frequency = 4088Mhz

spi32m_8m57s750ms.png

@228Bclk - QPI Frequency = 4110Mhz
- had to bump vdimm, vcore and CPU VTT Special percentage added
- either a bad run, or lack of volts for either vdimm or CPU VTT or both led to slower 32M Pi time ?

Good job, wish I had toys like these! GL on your way to 230 bclk super pi 32M stable!

Nice results, I just managed to get stable at 4.3Ghz with 1.38Vcore on my chip. I think that will be enough to run 24/7 :D

Good luck with your base clock, tried any suicide runs yet?

thanks guys... suicide runs aren't really my thing but hitting 230bclk ceiling right now

Max BCLK with 10x Memory Multiplier
- limited by memory max overclock frequency

Now to try max Bclk frequency with 10x memory multiplier - ultimately will be limited by how far my memory modules can overclock :)

Interesting that up to DDR3-2263Mhz system registered 3x1GB Samsung HCF0 unmatched modules as triple channel, but when I hit DDR3-2298Mhz, windows reported dual channel instead of triple channel ?? Not enough volts somewhere or maybe my 1GB G.Skill PC3-12800HZ module can't keep up with my Corsair DDR3-2133C9DF modules ??

Will 3 sticks of 2Gb G.Skil 1600Mhz be able to run at 1T?
I am not sure whether it is supposed to be 1T or 2T, so I was wondering if I could run it like that. :p

Eva2000 - I've read a lot of your posts and you seem to know a lot about memory timings. I wanted to know if you could maybe help me a bit.

I have 6 x 2GB OCZ Gold 8-8-8-24 1.65V memory sticks.

If I used all 6 sticks, do you feel that I would be able to OC them to 1800 or is the max they will go 1600?

What timings would I have to play with in order to possibly get that stable?

Thanks in advance.

wow those speeds are insane!!! awesome results bro keep at it!
thanks :)

hard to say as i never used 2GB DDR3 modules even on X38/X48 let alone X58, would depend on modules themselves the board and ultimately the memory controller on the specific cpu :)

that everest bench just gave me a chubby.

good lord.
haha you should see the WR everest read is around 27K with tri-channel and A-DATA 2133X @1118mhz 7-8-7-x !

same answer as Badbonji - i'd just loosen all main i.e. 9-9-9-28 and subtimings and work your way up in mem frequency, then start tightening things one at a time and test :)

Max BClock
Testing 2nd twin batch cpu and definitely this second i7 920 3836A756 is better than my first one in terms of max Bclock and low CPU VTT usage.

i7 920 3836A756 #1 results here
  • max memtest86+ bootable bclk = 224 requiring 1.58-1.60v CPU VTT
  • max super pi 32m bclk = 222bclk (without IOH/ICH voltage tweaks) & 228bclk (with IOH/ICH voltage tweaks) requiring 1.60-1.61v CPU VTT
  • max CPUZ Validation = 230bclk requiring 1.60-1.63v CPU VTT

i7 920 3836A756 #2
  • max memtest86+ bootable bclk = 229bclk requiring 1.40-1.48v CPU VTT
  • max super pi 32m bclk = 227bclk (without IOH/ICH voltage tweaks) & ???bclk (with IOH/ICH voltage tweaks TBD) requiring 1.48-1.50v CPU VTT
  • max CPUZ Validation = 231bclk requiring 1.50v CPU VTT

TBD - Haven't tested 2nd cpu with IOH/ICH tweaks yet
