Just wondering...

Is it safe to use a computer power supply to power a car audio amp??

If this is ok... is there a way to determine the needed output of the PSU to power a car amp.

I know that this may be a crazy idea but please just humor me.

You should be able to check the amplifier's max power draw in DC amperes and then compare it to the capacity of the 12V rail (+) on your PSU. I'd not go over ~75-80% for reliability's sake.

I don't recommend it. Especially when you can get a new Behringer EP4000 that does 2kW into 4 ohms bridged all day long for $275.

Computer power supplies aren't designed to power car amps. Some can do it, others not so much. I'd go for the biggest thing I could find, and by that time you might as well just go for the Behringer.

Unless you're a reviewer like me stuck with a dud 1500W unit on the shelf with issues that can't be used for it's intended purpose
