I had a Zalman 9500 and although it was OK there are much better coolers out there for not much more. Try looking into a Thermalright Ultra-120 or the extreme, or a Tuniq Tower.

ok i will look into a better heatsink.

also do you think that my mobo is overclock friendly? because that is the key. or should i invest in a better mobo? if so which one? (one that supports the intel core duo)

CHECK THIS SITE OUT:
which one of these would be the best to get to keep me cool for overclocking?

if I have all the fans and stuff for the computer and i put a heatstink on the cpu, will my computer be ok to clock

thanks for the help. IS MY MOTHERBOARD OK TO OVERCLOCK, WILL IT WORK fine? or do i have to invest more into my mother board? check the parts i am going to buy above

OH AND ALSO: what is the temp that i should not exceed when overclocking the core 2 duo (2.4ghz) should i keep it under 60c? or is it different for what im getting?????

Thank you soo much please answer all my questions

Yes, the motherboard is fine. Yes, the general rule of thumb is to keep load CPU temp below 60 if possible.

I would get a better power supply. That Rosewill you picked is totally inadequate. Very low amps on the 12v rails. Get the Corsair 620HX or this Silverstone (see link).

I know it cost a lot more, so let me suggest getting the cheaper E6420 Core 2 Duo. It is the best bang for the buck. It's do an easy 3.2 gig with decent cooling and low voltage. Most will do more than that even.

Also, the RAM you picked, while good, is sort of overkill and expensive. Get either the G. Skill "PK" (first link) or G. Skill "HZ" (second link). I have 2 buddies that own the RAM in the first link. They rock and will do DDR2-900 easy with modest voltage and 4-4-4-10 timings.

thanks for the suggestions, yeah i didnt think that the power supply that i was getting was adequete. thanks for catching that. also the e660 is only 40 dollars more so i am just going to get that. also im not sure about the ram yet, but might keep the one that i have. do you see any problems with the compatability of anything? or anything else that I should change?

so the better power supply i have the easier and safer it will be to overclock? same with heatsink right?

I would recommend also waiting until July 22nd to buy your stuff since the CPU will drop significantly and you will be able to get CPUs which OC much better for similar price of the current 6600.

Yeah, if you get a better PSU, the rest is ok. But, most of E6420 processors are overclocking as high as the E6600. Not sure why you want that RAM. Let's do the math with an E6600. Mine does 3.6 gig stable. That's 400 FSB or DDR2-800 with the 1:1 memory ratio. PC2-8500 will handle 533 FSB (DDR2-1066), which is way more than you'll ever need with either E6600 or E6420.

^yeah true. i will get the ram that you said to get. yeah it is a much better deal and stuff.. thanks, yeah it'll be past july 22 anyways. we'll see what comes out

Them man does speak with some sense. Listen to him.

yes i realize it i know. i went with the ram that you picked out, it will work fine. and i will wait to see the price drops on the cpu's after july 22nd... how does the rest of my setup look? like my motherboard? will it stand overclocking?
