If I was wrong I would hope you'd challenge me and set me straight m8 ;)

Back to the subject on his rig, I think he needs a Raptor :beer:
I second that, but just because it would fit in nicely with the rest of the nice, high end components of the rest of the system:)

But other than that its a VERY NICE rig.

But if I were you, I would try to wait a few more months untill PCI-Express and go that route, especially if your're already planning on purchasing a new, expensive video card and motherboard.

Because of unforeseen consequences, I'm actually going to have to scale back this thing :cry:

But only by a tad. Any advice?

I would scale back one of two things:
CPU: 3500 -> 3200
OR
Video Card: 6800Gt -> vanilla 6800 or 6600GT

The cpu scale back (to the 3200) would not cut off the most money but would still leave you the opportunity to overclock just as well. You could actaully even scale back to a 3000 and still be doing good!

The other option to scale back the video cards might save you more $$, but would hurt gaming performance a little more.

Its all up to you, just my $.02 worth:)

heh, I have a vanilla 6800, and it kicks the crap out of my old 9800 Pro.

If I was you, I would scale back to the 6600GT, it still runs doom3 and half life two at decent res with high detail (1024x768x32).

I would suggest however going with a little cheaper video card (like a 6600GT or X800np) and getting a nice 17" LCD or something else...

Yeah, I hear ya sen, I've got a 15" viewsonic and the white looks "off white":rolleyes:

About the My Struggle part, I think he named it that for a reason, he struggling to get the ultimate rig.... I donno, just what I got out of it when I read Mein Kampf

yes, go with the raptor 74gb, the 36 is actually slower, plus you get more space and it isn't that expensive...use the maxtor as storage space. a gig of ram is a good idea, also, scratch the sound card, seeing from your speaker selection, it's definately not worth getting a sound card...plus, it will save you some money and the onboard sound on most motherboards is very good...the only time i've noticed any difference was when i put my logitec z680s on optical through my audigy 2 platinum zs...and codgens are far from the z680s :) looking good though, i'd recommend staying wtih the 6800gt, youre better off that way... good luck man

Is a raptor really worth the additional costs? I REALLY need to shave the price down here, but I don't want to compromise the quality.

oh, and a Razer Diamondback, but those are out of stock right now

I would prolly opt for a better cooler, I dont know much about that one but I know TT isnt the best

Oh yeah, at this day in the game, I wouldnt go agp if you are speeding that much money. If you really want agp, maybe a board w/ both pcx and agp?
