Need a PSU Connection Clarification

I had to disasemble this 5+ year old custom build computer to clean and redo the wiring management and I am stumped on this. The owner had the 24-Pin Power + 4-Pin Molex Power + 8-Pin Power all connected. If I am correct, don't you only use the extra 4-Pin Molex when you use a 20-Pin Power Cable? Thanks

Yep, PCIe. Leave it connected if he is running multiple GPUs. Otherwise, it is optional.
