i have a copy of windows 7 trial edition it will last me long enough till i buy the cd key for it
would it be possible to get a fresh install of 7 over the xp ?
ill have to run the diagnostic tomorrow when i can take one of my mates cds to burn

I'm guessing the trial edition is an upgrade, not a full install? You could try it but make sure you back up everything you want to keep just in case the install of the trial edition doesn't go as planned.
