Hi all,
Back in August of 2006 I made what most of you would probably consider a screwup and bought a Sager 5760 gaming notebook for college. I paid 3 grand for it - a deal at the time - and was crazy about it. For about six months. When the 8800 series launched, I realized that I had probably made a mistake in buying a notebook instead of building a desktop.
I've lived with said mistake for about a year. Crysis is what finally convinced me to look into selling the notebook before I go back to college again in January. Here are my specs:
- Display: 17" WUXGA
- Processor: Intel Core Duo Yonah T2500 2.0GH
- Video Card: 512MB PCI-Express nVidia GeForce 7900 GTX
- External Monitor Video Adapter: None Standard
- Ram: 2048MB DDR2 667 PC2 5300 (2x1GB)
- Exterior Finish: Standard Finish
- Bay 1 Media Drive: 8X DVD/24X10X24 CDRW Combo Drive
- Primary Hard Drive: 100GB 7200RPM (Serial-ATA)
- Floppy Drive: None Standard
- Memory Card Reader: Internal 4-in-1 Card Reader (SD/
- Camera: Integrated Digital Video Camera
- Sound Card: Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audi
- Case: Basic Black Business Case - Incl
- Operating System: Windows XP Home SP2 with Drivers
...not a bad machine by any stretch of the imagination, but not something that can run Crysis on high, either, and worst of all, I can't upgrade it, for obvious reasons.
I've been strongly considering selling it and building a machine that will take advantage of the 8x series' awesomeness (with the 8800 GT at 250 dollars now, it's very appealing). The value of my machine has dropped a lot, and the warranty has expired, so I'd be looking at somewhere between 1000-1300 if I sold it. 1000 is the most I'd want to spend on a new system if I did build one.
So my questions are:
1) Is selling the notebook while I still can a good idea?
2) What can I build around an 8800 GT for 1000 dollars, minus a soundcard and a monitor (I have extras), with room for expansion later on?
