Hey folks, I have an Emachine celeron system with Intel integrated "extreme graphics". The performance stinks...(see this post http://www.ocforums.com/showthread.php?p=3226213#post3226213), so I went to the emachine website to see what I could upgrade when it comes to video. They recommended these cards:

POWERCOLOR ATI RADEON 9200SE Video Card, 128MB DDR, 64-bit, DVI/TV-Out, PCI for $99.00

or

nVidia MX400 64MB DDR PCI 4X Graphic Card for $59.00

This will be my first time upgrading anything on any computer (total 'NooB' at this;), and I was wondering what you folks think of it, and what (if anything) you recommend I get instead.

I don't have an AGP slot, so I am stuck with PCI video cards.

Any thoughts or suggestions GREATLY appreciated.

You should have bought a dell P4 off ebay for less money that that crappy emachine celly, the Dell Dimension 4600 sells on there for like $400. Your problem is I doubt you have an AGP card slot to put a decent video card in anyway. check out www.newegg.com they have the best prices on video cards anywhere.

This is the best card you can get in a PCI slot

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-434&depa=1

its only $121 + $0.99 for shipping through newegg

BUY IT< YOU WONT BE SORRY!

The best PCI card I can think of would be a PCI radeon 9100, but they are hard to find. The most common one would be a PCI Geforce FX 5200, but make SURE you get the one with 128bit ram. The Radeon 9200se you listed is a super-crippled version of the 9100, less than half as fast, and the MX400 is the card I used in my cheap-o pc in 1999.
